Energia is a socially and environmentally responsible energy services contracting company. The company was founded in 2009, funded in part from a federal HHS/OCS grant through Nuestras Raices CDC, to provide green career ladder jobs to the unemployed and underemployed from some of the poorest cities in western Massachusetts. The for-profit LLC was also founded with 25% worker ownership and to provide a source of revenue for three other founding owners (two local non-profits and one consumer cooperative).
The company has grown to 21 employees with two to three cellulose insulation trucks and one spray foam truck. Energia is running from two to four crews every day, providing services to homeowners as well as large educational institutions such as Williams, Smith and Mount Holyoke Colleges.
